Treatments for Children

The American Association of Orthodontists recommends all children be evaluated by an orthodontist by age seven. By this age, most children have a mix of baby and adult teeth, and Dr. Brown and Dr. Fasy can diagnose tooth and jaw problems.

Some children can benefit from early treatment. This phase one treatment allows our orthodontists to:

  • Correct and guide the growth of your child’s jaw
  • Regulate the width of the upper and lower arches
  • Create more space for crowded teeth
  • Avoid the need for permanent tooth extractions later in life
  • Correct thumb sucking

Possible indicators for early orthodontic treatment include:

  • Early or late loss of baby teeth
  • Mouth breathing
  • Finger or thumb sucking
  • Crowded, misplaced, or blocked teeth
  • Crossbite or underbite
  • Jaws and teeth out of proportion to the face
