Traditional metal braces
Traditional metal braces are the most common type and are made of high-grade stainless steel. They are more comfortable today than ever before. With metal braces, you have the option of adding colored elastics for a more unique and colorful smile.
Self-ligating braces are made from the same materials as traditional braces or clear braces. These braces use a specialized clip in place of color ties to hold the wire in place.
Clear (ceramic) braces
Ceramic braces are made of clear materials and are less visible on your teeth than metal braces. For this reason, they are used mainly on older teenagers and adult patients with cosmetic concerns. They require more attention to oral hygiene because they are larger and more brittle than their metal counterparts. For these reasons, ceramic braces are primarily used on upper front teeth and rarely on lower teeth.
Clear aligners are a series of invisible, removable, acrylic trays that straighten your teeth like braces. Since the aligners are removable, you can eat and drink what you want while in treatment. In addition, brushing and flossing are less of a hassle. The aligners are comfortable and contain no metal to cause mouth abrasions during treatment.
